My Career As an Educator and Designer

Since 2004 I have dedicated my career to improving the educational opportunities for children in America and abroad. After graduating from Haverford College with Honors in Political Science, in 2006 and 2007 I traveled and volunteered in schools in Venezuela, Peru, Kenya and Pakistan. Building on this work and my success as Director of Serendipity Day Camp (outside of Philadelphia), in 2007 joined Teach for America as a corps member in New York City. During that time I taught ninth and tenth grade world history and law, pioneered new strategies for assessment and data usage, and earned an MST from Pace University.

In 2009 I decided to pursue a teaching opportunity at the Bronx Preparatory Charter school, and until 2011 I taught 10th and 11th grade world history, SAT prep, and launched an initiative to take students on trips aboard. In February 2011 twenty-two students and nine faculty traveled under my leadership to Spain for ten days, traveling to seven cities, and experiencing an incredible inter-cultural exchange.

In 2011 I started my company and for over two years I oversaw the development and testing of several educational gaming products and led the operational, financial, and marketing divisions of the company. Facing a number of challenges to growth, the company ultimately closed at the end of 2013. Meanwhile, in the summer of 2013 I was presented with the opportunity to apply my knowledge of pedagogy and entrepreneurship to support the improvement and expansion of the Democracy Prep Public Schools, a network of high performing charter schools in New York City.  I currently am continuing this work as the network's high school curriculum specialist supporting four high schools and planning for further expansion. My volunteer activities also include leading two communities: Game-Based Learning NYC and the World History Community of the NCSS.

I Work Tirelessly Innovating The Methods and Systems of Learning

  • I develop curriculum, units and lessons, especially for government, economics and world history classes
  • I build adaptive learning games and software to make standards-based assessment more engaging and efficient
  • I combine the best pedagogy, technology and management principles to guide schools and organizations to optimize learning growth, leadership development and systems efficiency
